Christianity starts there too. At the center of the gospel is not what we bring God, but what God gives us in Christ. Grace cannot be earned, organized, manifested, or added to a list of accomplishments. For those of us who enjoy being competent, this can be mildly offensive.
It is also a relief.
Gratitude is remembering how much of life - and all of grace - was given before we ever earned a thing.
