Life gives us plenty of reasons to put our guard up. Disappointment. Rejection. People who handled us carelessly. After a while, being a little harder can start to feel like the safer option.
But gentleness in the Bible is never weakness.
Jesus could be direct, hold boundaries, walk away, and tell the truth - without needing to become cruel to prove He was strong.
I think that’s the kind of strength worth keeping.
The gospel gives us somewhere steady enough to stay soft. When our worth is already secure in God, we don’t have to win every room, match every energy or pretend nothing can hurt us.
We can be tender and discerning. Warm and clear. Soft-hearted without being easily moved from what matters.
Maybe strength isn’t becoming harder.
Maybe it’s staying gentle anyway.
