Jesus had a rather inconvenient suggestion: love your enemies. Not tolerate everything, abandon your boundaries, or pretend people haven't hurt you. But choose not to let someone else's opinion turn you into someone you don't particularly like either.
There's a certain freedom in not needing to defend yourself to everyone. You can be misunderstood and still be at peace. You can wish someone well and love them from a very reasonable distance. Because kindness isn't about winning people over. It's about becoming the kind of person who doesn't need to.
